How interviews work: the rounds and what they checkInterview kaise hota hai: rounds aur unka maqsad

Interview ek imtihaan nahi, ek baatcheet hai jisme company dekhti hai ki tum kaam kar paoge ya nahi, aur team mein fit hoge ya nahi. Har round ka alag maqsad hota hai. Maqsad samajh liya toh taiyari aadhi ho jaati hai.

1Aam rounds aur woh kya dekhte hain

  • Phone ya HR screening (5-15 minute): basic jaankari sahi hai? Baat saaf karte ho? Salary aur location theek hai?
  • Aptitude ya online test: maths, reasoning, English. Zyada tar badi companies aur bulk hiring mein.
  • Skill ya technical round: kaam aata hai ya nahi. Excel test, typing, sales role-play, coding, ya tumhare project pe sawaal.
  • Manager round: kaam kaise karoge, mushkil mein kya karoge, team ke saath kaise rahoge.
  • HR round: salary, joining date, documents, company ke niyam.

Chhoti companies mein ye sab ek hi baatcheet mein ho jaata hai.

2Interviewer asal mein kya jaanna chahta hai

Har sawaal ke peeche teen hi sawaal hote hain:
1. Kya ye kaam kar sakta hai? (skill, saboot)
2. Kya ye kaam karna chahta hai? (interest, company ke baare mein jaankari)
3. Kya ye team mein fit hoga? (vyavhaar, imaandaari, seekhne ki chaahat)

Apna har jawab inme se kisi ek ko saabit kare, bas yahi taiyari hai.

3Apna interview tracker banao

Job search ek number game hai. Jitne achhe applications, utne interview. Sab ek jagah likho, taaki kuch chhoote nahi.

  1. Neeche ka tracker download karo (Excel ya Google Sheets mein khulega).
  2. Har job ke liye ek row: company, role, kahan apply kiya, date, round, agla step.
  3. Har interview ke baad likho kaunse sawaal aaye. Ye agli baar kaam aayega.
  4. Hafte mein ek baar dekho: kahan follow-up karna hai.

Example: Maan lo: ek BPO interview

Maan lo Rohit ka customer support job ka interview hai. Phone screening mein unhone dekha ki uski English saaf hai. Online test mein basic English aur typing thi. Manager round mein ek gussa customer ka role-play hua. HR round mein shift timing aur salary ki baat hui. Rohit ko pehle se pata tha ki har round kya dekh raha hai, isliye woh ghabraya nahi.

Aam galtiyan

  • Har interview ko ek jaisa samajhna aur kisi round ki alag taiyari na karna.
  • Interview ke baad sawaal note na karna, aur agli baar wahi galti dohrana.
  • 2-3 jagah apply karke rukna. Ek saath 15-20 sahi jagah apply karo.

Practice task

Tracker download karo aur jin 5 jobs mein tumhe interest hai, unki row bharo. Har ek ke liye likho ki kaunse rounds ho sakte hain.

Jaldi se recap

  • Rounds: screening, test, skill, manager, HR
  • Teen sawaal: kar sakta hai? chahta hai? fit hoga?
  • Har jawab ek ko saabit kare
  • Tracker mein har application
  • Har interview ke sawaal note karo

An interview is not an exam; it is a conversation where the company checks whether you can do the job and whether you will fit the team. Each round has its own purpose. Understand the purpose and half your preparation is done.

1Common rounds and what they check

  • Phone or HR screening (5-15 minutes): are your basic details right? Do you speak clearly? Do salary and location work?
  • Aptitude or online test: maths, reasoning, English. Common in big companies and bulk hiring.
  • Skill or technical round: can you do the work? An Excel test, typing, a sales role-play, coding, or questions on your project.
  • Manager round: how you work, what you do when things go wrong, how you work with a team.
  • HR round: salary, joining date, documents, company rules.

Small companies often fold all of this into one conversation.

2What the interviewer really wants to know

Behind every question there are only three questions:
1. Can this person do the job? (skills, proof)
2. Does this person want the job? (interest, knowledge of the company)
3. Will this person fit the team? (behaviour, honesty, willingness to learn)

Make every answer prove one of these. That is all preparation is.

3Build your interview tracker

Job hunting is a numbers game: more good applications, more interviews. Keep everything in one place so nothing slips.

  1. Download the tracker below (it opens in Excel or Google Sheets).
  2. Add one row per job: company, role, where you applied, date, round, next step.
  3. After each interview, note the questions you were asked. They will help next time.
  4. Check it once a week to see where you need to follow up.

Example: Imagine: a BPO interview

Imagine Rohit has an interview for a customer support job. The phone screening checks that his English is clear. The online test has basic English and typing. The manager round is a role-play with an angry customer. The HR round covers shift timings and salary. Because Rohit knows what each round is checking, he does not panic.

Common mistakes

  • Treating every interview the same and not preparing for specific rounds.
  • Not noting the questions after an interview, then repeating the same mistakes.
  • Applying to 2-3 places and stopping. Apply to 15-20 suitable places at a time.

Practice task

Download the tracker and fill in rows for 5 jobs that interest you. For each, write which rounds you expect.

Quick recap

  • Rounds: screening, test, skill, manager, HR
  • Three questions: can do it? wants it? fits?
  • Every answer proves one
  • Track every application
  • Note the questions after each interview
